A bronx court has ruled that an applicant who had last been convicted of a felony 24 years ago was illegally denied employment working for New York state as a direct care worker for mentally impaired adults.

Acting Supreme Court Justice Patricia Anne Williams held that The New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities failed to consider that the candidate previously had an "unblemished work record" with vulnerable populations and had not been convicted since 1983,
