This training will cover grounds for claiming asylum and related relief. It will include discussion of persecution and well-founded fear of persecution, developments in the particular social group analysis, bars to asylum, and evidentiary issues. The session will address expedited removal and credible fear interviews. Withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture will also be covered. The training will provide practical tips on putting together an asylum application and representing an asylum seeker before USCIS and the immigration court. New trends in the processing of asylum applications will be discussed.Please note that this training is only open to organizations and attorneys based in New York State.
