As part of its research into alternative sentencing, the Commission looked into Multnomah Country, Oregon's Domestic Violence Deferred Sentencing Program. The program is a nine-month program that provides persons who have been charged with a domestic-violence related misdemeanor to attend domestic violence education classes and substance abuse treatment if warranted. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the court will dismiss the charges with prejudice.
