Center for Constitutional Rights has partnered with the Fifth Avenue Committee's Prison Families Community Forum and Prison Families of New York, Inc. to launch this initiative." The objectives of the New York Campaign for Telephone Justice are to achieve more equitable rates for phone calls to and from prisoners, a high level of consumer choice within the prison telephone system, and fair service without unilateral preemptive cut-offs. We are pursuing these objectives on many fronts, including public education through murals, rallies, advertising and street theater as well as working with family organizations to advocate for fairer phone services for prisoners and their loved ones. Ultimately, the focus of the campaign will be on ending the current contract, a matter that may be pursued through the executive, judicial and legislative branches. We are pursuing all three, but concentrate most specifically on efforts towards the introduction and passage of legislation that incorporates our objectives.
