Join us for a meeting of the Coalition for Women Prisoners' Violence Against Women Committee. The VAW Committee focuses on addressing the needs of incarcerated & formerly incarcerated survivors of domestic violence through public education & policy change. Learn more about our work on the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act, which would: (1) give judges discretion to sentence survivors whose abuse was a "significant contributing factor" in their crime to lower sentences, community-based alternatives to incarceration instead of prison &/or probation. (2) Permit currently incarcerated survivors to apply to the courts for resentencing. We encourage you to join the committee, share your thoughts & input as we continue to support formerly & currently incarcerated survivors of abuse.
