Unemployment Insurance (UI) is New York's safety net program for people who lose their jobs, paying out more than $4 billion last year to families in New York City. Thousands more New Yorkers could benefit from the program if they knew they were eligible or if they accessed assistance when their claims were challenged. Come learn all the ins-and-out of unemployment insurance, such as earnings requirements, eligibility rules, resources to assist jobless workers and opportunities for retraining, as well as new provisions under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Learn some surprising facts, such as domestic violence victims are eligible for UI, as are seasonal workers who have only worked for six months. Cost of workshop is $40.00.
